Hi, loves! It feels like I’ve been away for so long! As you may have noticed, a lot has changed here on the site. I’m so happy to be able to bring you this redesign and I hope that you love it as much as I do. The goal was to update the overall aesthetic of the blog, but also make it easier to navigate. As the breadth of content on The Fashionesta grows and I’m able to bring you more than one or two types of posts, I wanted to make sure that you could easily find just what it is that you’re looking for every time you visit the site. Along that vein, in addition to the style, beauty, lifestyle, and Fashion Find posts that have become staples on the site, I’m also happy to introduce the latest regular feature: Musings. In my Musings, you can expect to read my thoughts on trends, fashion news, New York City living, and anything else that may come up as I try to navigate this thing called life. First up: why you’ll never catch me in a pair of mules. I hope you enjoy this newest addition! Feel free to leave requests for future Musings topics in the comments below.

While working on the redesign of the site, I also took a break from New York City. I headed home to DC for a bit of summer fun and quality time with my family. Now, I’m back, and I’ve moved into a new neighborhood. I am SO excited about this new chapter. My final year of grad school (and school, in general!!) starts in a couple of weeks and there are other wonderful things in the works, as well. So, to celebrate my move and the winding-down of summer, I decided to finally take a trip to the hot spot that is Williamsburg. I love the combination that resulted from the pairing of these two blush pieces. The soft pleating of the shorts added some interest to the monochromatic pairing and gave me a wonderful canvas to add accents to. With a bright red lip, chunky necklace, and elaborately-printed loafers, I was able to take an outfit that might ordinarily be considered ultra-femme and delicate, and turn it into something eclectic and menswear-inspired. The menswear vibe was also perfectly punctuated by my oversized watch. I’d been looking for the right gold watch for the longest time, so I quickly fell for this beautiful Caravelle model. And they’re designed right here in New York! What better way to celebrate my neighborhood move?

“You’ll Be Fine” is a song that I discovered and clung to in my mid-teens. Donnie McClurkin is like the wonderfully kind, wise uncle of gospel music and the purity with which he ministers connected with me at a young age. This is a song that encourages me and, in the midst of quite a few changes in my life, it’s fitting that this song accompany today’s post.
