Summer is winding down to a close and I must admit that I am ready to welcome the cooler months with open arms (We’ll revisit this when I’m shivering from the frigid temps of winter, haha). As a final farewell to summer 2014, I’m indulging in the most carefree pieces in my wardrobe. Case in point: this plaid shirt is a true workhorse for me. It’s perfect when paired with cutoffs for a true Americana vibe, yet it easily lends itself to being layered come fall and winter. I love its worn-in texture, which is only getting better with age. And when I pare my outfits down for summer, I tend to turn it up a notch when layering jewelry. I am such a sucker for beautiful rings. Each of these has been in my family for decades and I take pride in extending their life by intertwining them with my own. I’m also honored to raise awareness about The Brave Collection. Through partnership with Cambodian artisans, the collection—of which every piece is handmade—represents empowerment for women and girls in the fight against human trafficking.

“All We Ask” is one of my favorite songs. Aside from the outstanding vocal performance, the song helped me get through a very tough time a few years ago when I lost a childhood friend to a car accident. And as I mentioned in the post “You’ll Be Fine,” Donnie McClurkin’s songs carry an anointing that surpasses the sounds of the music itself. It’s incredible. Take a listen.
