Welcome to the new blog feature, Reader Questions! Here, I’ll be answering the different questions that you all have been asking. Thank you for all of the support! I’m very excited to start answering your questions!
How do I wear colored pants?
As you have seen, I love color and I love to rock a pair of bold pants. So, how do I decide what looks good with certain colors?
When it comes to style, I think it’s always helpful to be able to see the options. I’ve laid out a couple of combinations below to illustrate the different tops you can choose to pair with your colored jeans or trousers. (Feel free to do this at home! Laying the options out on your bed will allow you to see if/how well colors work together.)
One rule of thumb to keep in mind is that a neutral-colored top (specifically white, black, or gray) will always work with a colored pair of pants. In the above combo (all H&M), I chose a heather gray to balance out the coral jeans. With that being said, however, don’t be afraid to pair an equally-bold, contrasting top with those jeans, like this yellow tank. Color-blocking isn’t going anywhere in the foreseeable future, so take advantage of your chance to pair brights! 🙂
Here’s another illustration using pieces from The Gap. Yes, this black-and-white, striped tee also counts as a neutral. Bonus: the stripes add visual interest, steering the outfit away from a “solids-only” look. Feeling more bold? Cobalt blue and red are one of the strongest visual combos around (just ask Superman). Don’t be afraid to go for it!
Finally, I decided to add in a third look using a pair of (Zara) printed pants, since they’re having such a huge moment this season. Printed pants, like any other colored pants, also look perfect when paired with a neutral. Another easy option, however, is to choose a top that is in one of the colors inside the print. Simple and chic!
Now, get out there and rock those bold pants! 😉
